When an AI tool can turn an ordinary school photo into a sexually explicit image in seconds, how can we keep children safe? As artificial intelligence shapes the digital world our kids grow up in, loving adults need to understand the threats online and how to better protect children from abuse and exploitation. Children are facing unprecedented levels of sexual abuse online. When online abuse is included, an estimated 1 in 5 children in the United States experience sexual abuse in childhood (Finkelhor et al. 2024). In 2025 alone, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children received 21.3 million reports of suspected child sexual exploitation, and 1.5 million of the reported files involved generative AI (NCMEC 2026). These numbers actually reflect a decrease from the 36.2 million reports in 2023, due to end-to-end encryption making it harder for online platforms to detect and report child sexual abuse material (CSAM). This 1-hour long training for parents, educators, and all caring adults explains how online exploitation works, including grooming, child enticement, financial sextortion, and the creation of sexual deepfakes through AI. We will also discuss the emerging threats of AI companion chatbots and violent online networks. Then we will turn to action steps with the simple acronym: T.E.C.H. (Talk, Establish, Configure, Help), a practical framework for talking to kids about these topics at age-appropriate levels, establishing technology agreements, configuring a layer of parental controls, and helping when a child does experience online child sexual abuse. Participants will learn: - What online child sexual abuse and how AI is contributing to the landscape - Emerging dangers: AI-generated abuse material, deepfakes, AI chatbots, and violent online networks - Behavioral warning signs that may indicate a child is in trouble - Tangible steps to take action with T.E.C.H. and protect the children in your life - Where and how to report online child sexual abuse Every participant will receive a one-page guide to take action with T.E.C.H. with links to resources, including a free 50-page booklet on how to talk to your child about online safety skills and other prevention messages.
