AI Governance: The Difference Between a Pilot and a Successful Rollout

About

Most enterprise AI initiatives don't fail in the lab — they fail in production, when nobody can say with confidence what data trained the model, who has access to it, or what happens when it gets something wrong. A pilot only has to work once, in a controlled environment, in front of a friendly audience. A rollout has to work every time, at scale, under regulatory scrutiny, with real customer data flowing through it. Governance is what closes that gap: it's the difference between a demo that impressed the board and a system the board is willing to bet the company on. Without it, most AI programs stall at the same point — legal won't sign off, security can't trace the data lineage, and the pilot quietly gets shelved. With it, the questions that normally kill a rollout get answered before they're ever asked: What data trained this? Who's accountable if it's wrong? Can we prove that to a regulator?
