About The Open Accelerator

  • Mission

The Open Accelerator (TOA) is a Boston-based AI innovation hub launched by Red Hat and IBM in partnership with the Massachusetts AI Hub. Its mission is to close the enterprise readiness gap — helping early-stage technical founders evolve promising AI prototypes into the secure, scalable, and compliant architectures that enterprise buyers and their CISOs actually approve and deploy.

  • Residency track

The Open Accelerator Residency is a high-touch, application-based cohort of five to ten early-stage startups focused on enterprise IT and regulated industries. Residents work side-by-side with Red Hat and IBM system architects on architecture, governance, and go-to-market — and are eligible for strategic investment from IBM Ventures.

  • Community engagement

The Community Engagement track opens the doors wider, with a monthly hackathon series in Boston's Seaport where builders prototype production-ready AI applications on open source templates, alongside deepening ties to the region's universities.

  • Open by design

Built on open source principles and championing open standards, TOA is also part of the Google for Startups Cloud Program — giving participating founders cloud credits, hands-on labs, and direct access to Google Cloud's AI resources. State, enterprise, venture, and community work alongside founders to scale Massachusetts AI companies to the global stage.

Why it matters for Boston AI Week

  • Shared thesis: The Open Accelerator and Boston AI Week share a thesis: Massachusetts wins when its AI ecosystem — startups, enterprises, universities, investors, and government — builds together.
  • Same neighborhood: TOA's Seaport hackathons run in the same neighborhood that anchors Boston AI Week, and its founding partnership with the Massachusetts AI Hub connects it to the Commonwealth's broader AI strategy.

At Boston AI Week 2026

Look for The Open Accelerator throughout the week — expect a Seaport hackathon during the festival, founder office hours, a Residency showcase, and sessions on open source AI architecture. Details will appear on the schedule as they're confirmed.
