SUMMARY:The Missing Layer: AI Governance as Organizational Architecture
DESCRIPTION:Somewhere in the organization\, an AI is doing work nobody ap
proved\, on a budget nobody set\, producing value nobody is measuring.\n\
nThat is not a hypothetical. It is what technology leaders told us this s
pring — at the MIT Sloan CIO Symposium\, and around a table at this same
club. Half described their AI governance as guardrails against misuse\; m
ore than a third had none at all. The most telling number was zero: not o
ne said governance was slowing them down. The problem is not too much AI
governance. It is the wrong kind.\n\nThe reflex is more rules — a policy\
, an ethics charter\, a framework mapped to NIST. But no federal statute
forces the question here. And it is not a rules gap: what is missing is a
n operating model — clear ownership\, budget accountability\, and decisio
n rights for every AI in use.\n\nThroughout the roundtable discussion\, w
e will work through:\n\nWhy the compliance frameworks everyone is buying
cannot close this gap alone\nThe one question that routes every AI to the
right oversight: technology\, or teammate?\nHow to anchor accountability
for each AI — functionally\, budget-wise\, and on results — when the req
uest arrives as "I want ten million dollars of tokens"\n\nThis is the mis
sing layer\, and closing it separates the organizations scaling AI from t
 hose stuck running pilots.
